The SERVANT of Two MASTERS
By Carlo Goldoni  Directed by Brian Stansbridge

In the open air

HAMPTWORTH LODGE, LANDFORD, SP5 2DR
Between Romsey and Salisbury

Following last year’s summer production of Tom Jones, we are delighted to announce that for July 2010, the Maskers will be presenting Carlo Goldoni's 18th century comedy The Servant of Two Masters.

The Servant of Two Masters is one of the great commedia dell'arte plays and Carlo Goldoni's most famous piece. It is a rip-roaring comedy about the complications wrought by a servant -- Truffaldino -- when he gets himself jobs with two different people at the same time. Not all the complications are of his making; one of his 'masters' is, in fact, a woman in disguise, and the other is her lover, but Truffaldino doesn't know this.

There are mistaken identities, cross-dressing, slapstick comedy, romance, jealousy, a duel and a hilarious supper when Truffaldino becomes a manic waiter trying to serve both masters a huge and very messy banquet.

This modern language adaptation by David Turner and Paul Lapworth is suitable for audiences of all ages and is certain to please. We look forward to seeing past visitors and new visitors in the gardens of Hamptworth Lodge.
