Ben Travers commenced his brilliant career as an author and novelist just after the

First World War and simply could not stop! Nor did his wit or ability fail him in later years, as may be expected of a man whose writing career spans more than fifty years. Indeed "The Bed Before Yesterday" was first produced in 1976, Ben Travers’ ninetieth year, and was acclaimed by critics as one of his finest works.

Travers was of course the master of the Aldwych farces, the basis of which, in his own words, were that "the characters wanted to go to bed with each other".

Rookery Nook was first produced in 1926 and is, perhaps, one of the best known and best loved of his plays. It was revived in 1972 as a West End musical under the name "Popkiss". The play has long been on the Maskers most wanted list and we trust that you will enjoy this evening's performance.
